Roughly 1% of plan participants account for 50% of a healthcare plan’s pharmaceutical spend.  Many of these plan participants qualify for “patient assistance programs”, but do not have the time or the know how to apply for assistance.  Paydhealth assists these plan participants with navigating the often-byzantine process of applying. 

Each quarter, Paydhealth provides its healthcare plan customers with the Select Drugs and Products^SM list.  If a plan participant receives a prescription for a drug on that list, the plan participant is referred to Paydhealth so Paydhealth can assess whether the plan participant is a candidate for a patient assistance program.  If the plan participant appears qualified, Paydhealth assists the plan participant with the application.  During the application process, the plan participant is provided with a co-pay card so there is no delay in receiving the prescribed medication. 

In the event the plan participant qualifies for enrollment in a patient assistance program, the plan participant is generally provided with the actual medication prescribed by their healthcare provider at no cost, as it is generally far less expensive for the patient assistance program to provide the actual medication prescribed as opposed to some other form of assistance, such as paying the plan participant’s pharmacy.  As a result of the patient assistance program, the plan avoids paying the cost of that particular medication.  Given the oversized expense associated with that single prescription, the cost savings to the plan can be substantial.
